Reviewing tails for mermaid shows

my reviews for mermaid tails I have used for mermaid shows. I do 5-7 mermaid shows that are 30 min each. the shows are at the pirates table calabash seafood buffet in Myrtle beach in a 10,000 gallon pool inside the restaurant.

*please note this is a review of how the tails perform for shows not an overall review of the tail itself

Finfolk fabric tail (I have 3 so let’s review 2 of them)

Mermaid Kariel seaglass grotto with Butterfly fluke.

The new made in house tails are very comfortable and thick. Easy to put on and take off. They look amazing and the kids love the scales and the colors. However, The fluke is huge and wide so it’s hard to maneuver and has a lot of drag. After 4 shows and being in the tail for 4 hours, my feet hurt specially my toes. I feel like all the weight of the huge fluke has been sitting directly on my toes. I am unable to flip the fluke up behind me repeatedly for photos in this tail. Unable to do a handstand with the huge floppy fluke and the vinyl.

The jewel of Jupiter. (Tangerine tide as I call it)

this tail is just as cozy and beautiful but the fluke is smaller and not as wide so it’s easier to swim with and doesn’t cause quite as much pain. Still difficult to maneuver the fluke with the vinyl inside but I can hold the fluke up behind me over and over for photos. Still puts pressure on my feet but not as much. Unable to do a handstand.

These tails are perfect for travel and photography and would be great for a single swim but I don’t think I will be using them for 5-6 show days in the future. Difficult to move the fluke, tricks are difficult, posing for photos is difficult, and it hurts my feet. If the kids don’t touch it they believe it’s real but up close they can tell it’s fabric and see the seams. If I get out of the water they can see the imprint of my knees and one kid pointed out my heels. This would be perfect for events like a parade where you are seen from a distance and not swimming for a long period of time.

Look ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Comfort ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (would be 4 or 5 stars for comfort if you were wearing it for a short time.)

Believability ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Climbing on Waterfall ⭐️ once I’m out of water you can see the legs through the fabric. Also too slippery to climb up there and I look like an idiot trying

Swimming ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (the butterfly fluke is a 2 and the calypso fluke is a 4 so the 3 is the average)

Tricks ⭐️⭐️ no handstands and decent fluke slaps but it hurts my feet and ankles, flips are easy

Photo posing ⭐️⭐️(would be a 4 for dry photos or beach photos but not for show photos)

Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars

The huge fluke with vinyl makes it difficult to control your fluke, do tricks, pose for photos and it adds drag. The calypso and Lorena flukes are much better for swimming than the sea nymph and butterfly flukes. I do love these tails and use them frequently just not for mermaid shows

Individually scaled pink tail from Haleymermaid.com

Crazy realistic, gorgeous, easy to put on and take off. Swims amazing and I can control the fluke as of it actually were part of my body. I can move the tips of the fluke to wave at kids. I can do handstands, flips, etc. with ease. Kids love it and believe it’s real. Hurts my feet after a while so I can’t stay in it for the full shift I have to take It off and take a break, I should have used a s instead of an xs shooter inside. I can hold this tail up behind me over and over for photos with no issues. Quick and my most comfortable silicone tail.

Koi fish Basic silicone tail from Haleymermaid.com

My warmest tail because of the neoprene inside. Kind of difficult to put on. It has a Luna inside so the propulsion is less than it would be if I put a different monofin in there but it still swims great. Harder to control the fluke and because there is a Luna monofin I can’t hold the fluke up for photos. After a while (3-4 hours) the side seams dig into my sides. The adults love this tail the most. Kids think it looks like a cat not a koi lol. Everyone thinks it looks real.

Warm and cozy and realistic but the floppy fluke is difficult to do tricks and pose for photos. If it had a different monofin inside it would be a 4

Ariel green full silicone tail from

This tail has a finis wave monofin inside

Look ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love the scales and the fluke but this was the practice tail for learning how to assemble the new scale sheet so the construction is messier than tails I would normally make.

Comfort ⭐️⭐️ once I’m in the water it’s pretty cozy but it’s very tight and squeezes my knees and hips. It starts to hurt after a few shows

Believability ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if the heels weren’t as noticeable I would give it 5 stars. The kids always believe it’s real. If the kids got closer they would be able to see the imperfections (again practice tail) and that would ruin it for some but from a distance it’s awesome

Climbing on Waterfall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ easy to get up there with this fluke but not easy to pose because of the weird seam and the wide fluke

Swimming ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ has a bit of drag but once you start swimming it has great propulsion. The fluke is wide so it’s a bit difficult to maneuver at times

Tricks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I can do all the tricks in this tail, flips, handstands, fluke smacks, etc.

Photo posing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ easy to lift the fluke and hold it behind me, the weight is distributed evenly so once the fluke is up I could hold it there for a long time

Performs well but it’s a hassle. This tail is great for shows overall but it is difficult to put on and it is squeezy so it is uncomfortable especially when I’m in it for an extended amount of time. The fluke is huge which makes the tunnel difficult since the fluke gets caught on the pool heater pipes

Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5 stars I took off points for the pain and the difficulty behind the scenes

Mertailor fantasea fin too with a custom body and fins from haleymermaid.com

Look ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Beautiful tail very detailed with lots of extra fins but has a lot of wear and tear from being used so much

Comfort ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The foot pockets are very cozy but after a few hours the tops of my feet start to hurt

Believability ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Kids always believe it real even some teenagers and adults

Climbing on Waterfall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The easiest tail to climb the waterfall in

Swimming ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So easy to swim in and fast! The fantasea fin is absolutely amazing. It’s difficult to maneuver in small areas with a wide fluke but the flexibility of the fin helps

Tricks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The fluke is heavy so handstands are difficult but can be done. Flips are easy.

Photo posing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Floppy and realistic yet easy to hold behind my head for photos

Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4.5 stars, if it wasn’t so fragile it would be my favorite tail for shows.
